More about the Pre-GMAT Verbal Refresher:
One of the biggest challenges of the Verbal section of the GMAT is its inherent subjectivity. Unlike Math questions, which have a correct answer determined by a set of concrete rules and principles, Verbal questions have a “best” answer determined at the discretion of the GMAT. To master the Verbal section, you eventually need to learn to think like the GMAT.

There is one Verbal question type, however, that is at least partially rule-based and objective: Sentence Correction. This question type asks test takers to find the best version of a sentence according to, amongst other things, the rules of English grammar. The tricky part is that much of how we speak or what we hear on TV is not, in fact, grammatically correct – what we’re used to hearing is actually wrong. And the GMAT is banking on this.

The best way to improve then is to know your grammar rules. Be able to identify answer choices that are objectively right and wrong. So in our 100-hr Ultimate GMAT Course, we teach common GMAT grammar errors such as subject-verb, subject verb agreement, dangling modifiers, and so forth. But you can’t identify a pronoun error without knowing what a pronoun is nor check for a misplaced modifier without understanding sentence structure.

In this 4-hour Pre-GMAT Verbal Refresher, we cover an introduction to English grammar discussing things like parts of speech, verb tenses, and sentence structure. The goal is to provide students with the foundational pieces they need to start taking a more efficient and effective approach to tackling challenging sentence correction questions.

Who should attend a Pre-GMAT Verbal Refresher?
If you’re serious about improving at sentence correction, you need to move on from sound-based reasoning and learn to identify the grammar errors tested on the GMAT. The starting point for this is a strong knowledge of the building blocks that make up these rules. Confused when the pronoun acts as the subject of a clause? Do you know your adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, and interjections? Come and learn the rules of usage and principles of composition most commonly violated on the GMAT.

Designed by expert GMAT instructors with many years of teaching experience helping students hone their English grammar skills, this specialized Verbal workshop will help you brush up on your high school Verbal skills before you formally start preparing for the GMAT.

Topics covered include:

  • Parts of Speech
  • Verb Tenses
  • Grammar Terminology
  • Parts of a Sentence
